EDUB 754 Leadership and Coaching

Course Description

In this course, reading specialist candidates will focus on the development and facilitation of skill sets and resources at the P-12 levels relating to literacy coaching. Using a balanced perspective, candidates explore the existing theories and best practice of literacy assessment. How to coach successfully and how to coach in difficult situations will also be studied.

Lecture: Serving Adult Learners

  • Learn about working with adult learners

Week 3

Lecture: Serving Adult Learners in School Contexts

  • Study how to create a climate of change and reflection

Week 4

Lecture: The Role of Assessment in Coaching

  • Address the role of assessment in coaching

Week 5

Lecture: Providing Professional Support

Outcomes

  • Examine how to provide professional support, beginning with the theory and moving to the practice

Week 6

Lecture: Classroom-Level Coaching

  • Examine classroom-level coaching

Week 7

Lecture: Literacy Coaching in Middle Grades

  • Examine the elements of coaching in the middle grades

Lecture: The Challenge of Working with Reluctant Teachers
