Apply for Government-backed Assistance

Financial aid can come from a variety of sources, including federal loans and grants, and state loans and grants. Students taking online courses at Dominican University have the same access to federal financial aid programs that are available to on-campus students. A University Alliance program representative will be happy to help you select the finance option that best suits your needs. From deciding on the right loan, grant or scholarship, to finding and filing the appropriate forms – your program representative will help you every step of the way.

FAFSA

To determine your eligibility for federal student aid, the first step is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is also used by most states and schools to award non-federal student financial aid. Take advantage of this opportunity by determining your eligibility today!

Federal Stafford Loans

Federal Stafford Loans are one of the lowest-cost ways to fund your education. If you qualify for a subsidized Stafford loan (based on need), the government will pay the interest on your loan while you are in school. Stafford student loans must be repaid beginning six months after a student graduates, withdraws or attends school less than half time. In some cases, the loan may be forgiven for teaching in specific environments.

Graduate PLUS Loans

Graduate PLUS Loans are federally sponsored loans for graduate students. Students should exhaust their federal Stafford loan dollars before applying for a Graduate PLUS loan.

Federal Perkins Loans

Perkins Loans are distributed to students who exhibit exceptional financial need. Perkins loans are similar to subsidized Stafford loans; however, there are no fees charged, and students have a longer grace period before repayment begins.

State Grants and Scholarships

Some states offer grants and scholarships to help teachers further their education. Contact your state education assistance authority for details on the financial assistance programs that may be available to residents of your state.
